Slinky Josh is one of Whapperton's central figures: a breakout spring performer whose material predates much of the wider archive. Also known as the Slinkmeister and the Wizard of Slink, he is associated with custom designs, spring loops, a memorable golden slinky and a public routine that can involve landing a coil on a foot, head or other object. In the Thacker material he moves through the Memorial Square action, exchanges designs with Marceau and remains close to the Frainstone disturbance without ever being reduced to a supporting extra. The early Hats material also uses the honorary title Slinkmeister General. The 9tyfi5 file records an unresolved territorial feud with Marcel Marceau over the Carrs.
