The Tale of the Frainstone Variant begins as a proposed Thacker D.C. spin-off set on the north Whapperton moors. Crocker opens the suggested first episode; the material repeatedly returns to a sweeping moorland panorama, a bloodshot opening image and a figure that staggers into the main serial's orbit. The released Thacker chat treats TFV as separate from Ainsley / Harriott: in the lair he is controlled, confined and drawn into the Memorial Square plan, before later turning against Harriott. The Ainsley Monster is therefore not treated as the Variant's derivative, but as Ainsley's own finale persona.
