Pete Leather is Whapperton Trading Standards' repeatedly invoked specialist for the moments when standards are slipping. The archive puts him on the defective-Slinkies case, then follows him into a separate musical life: a devoted listener to Krautrock, the writer of the solo tracks Butter Knife and Laced Boot, and a man made visibly less certain by years alongside Jedson. The end of his relationship with Sue / Su Leather is the clearest dividing line in the later material.
